Erica’s Hot 100

28 May

Maxim just published their Hot 100 for 2012, and let me tell you, outraged was not the word to describe how I felt. When I picture a top 100 list it must have timeliness and it must acknowledge the celebrity’s relevance in that year.

Maxim’s number one? Bar Rafaeli. Really Maxim? First of all, a Victoria’s Secret model as your number one hottest woman? That’s just lazy! That’s like picking oxygen as your favorite gas to breath! Obviously a lingerie model is hot, that is literally her full-time job! And Bar Rafaeli? She didn’t even lead the ladies out at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this year!

Also listed? Vanessa Hudgens, Megan Fox, Jessica Biel and Amanda Bynes. Sure, they’re good looking girls, but they have had no relevance in the last year. What are they doing there? There’s so much other super hot ladies that deserved proper places from this year!

Obviously I couldn’t stand to let this atrocity sit idly by like it didn’t neglect some ultimate hotties of 2012. So here’s my list. These ladies are not just hot because they look good in a bikini or have had a scandal or what not. They’re hot because they have sexy personalities, and are a plain ol’ hot presence on tv, movies and media. They’re hot even with their clothes on, a threatening kind of hot. See who I picked and what spot they earned!

Please note: This took research! Literal, jumping from website-to-website research. Never thought my life would come to that. Honestly, I’m okay with it.

200th Post about 200 Things About Me

30 Apr

Well here I am at my 200th post. Crazy to think that a lack of employment and a need to complain about life has gotten me here. And by ‘here’ I mean about as broke and weird as I was when I started this, but now with a job that makes me wake up early (I understand that 8 o’clock isn’t really early, but I still hate it)

I decided to celebrate my 200th post by posting 200 random things that haven’t made it into posts and probably never will, but are still pretty significant parts of my life. Included in that are: websites I love, things in general that I hate, places I want to go to, favorites, a bunch of weird stuff.

So check out my list of 200 Erica Things:

Welcome Back, Freckles

17 Apr

This past weekend my boyfriend, Alex, and I went to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. It was beautiful and warm and sunny and perfect. And best of all? My freckles came back!

Now I understand that most people hate freckles and love being tan. I am the exact opposite. I love my freckles, mainly because I don’t tan. At the ripe old age of 22 I’ve gotten wise and have stopped attempting to tan, mainly because I enjoy not getting cancer, and this is around the time I start stocking up on my sunscreen and getting ready for the summer.

Instead of dealing with sunburns and aloe and pain I’ve just decided to say screw it and embrace the teeny tiny little dots of tan that pop up all over me, AKA my freckles. They are my version of a tan, without actually getting a tan. And they’re my summer look without sunburn. I kind of love them. Luckily, freckles are cool now. Emma Stone, Bar Rafaeli, Cintia Dicker… all super hot hotties that make their freckles look good. I’m trying to get others around me to embrace the freckle movement, and make this the best summer ever.

To all the ladies out there I say, join me in the pale-freckle revolution. No longer will other girls grab your arms and yell “OH MY GAWWD LOOK HOW PALE YOU ARE!” because we’ll all be pale and awesome! This is the summer of healthy skin!

The Girl That Didn’t Win a Pulitzer Prize

16 Apr

…That’s me. I know, guys, shocking, I know. That video I posted about the penguins on an airplane at least deserved some recognition… but somehow I’ll get over it.

In all seriousness Pulitzer time has always been something I’ve admired. Even as a kid in the library my weird little mind would take me directly to Pulitzer Prize winners before anything else. When I would write short stories in class I would imagine that shiny gold sticker stamped over the corner of my story

Not mine.

about *NSYNC or Crazy Bones or whatever it was I was in love with at the time.  This year the Philadelphia Inquirer by me has had some winners of their own, which is very exciting because Philadelphia is better than everywhere else in the world.

Having winners so close to me also makes me wonder if I’ll ever get the chance to do something that monumental. I mean, it’s a big deal. It’s what every writer that has had something published aspires to earn; basically a big shiny medal that says “You Da Best.”

I hate to toot my own horn, but I know I’m pretty good at what I do. The thing that concerns me is that I don’t think I’m motivated enough to earn what these guys have earned, which I think can be the case for a lot of people in a million different careers. Entry level can kind of suck. Doing the bottom rung work all day, not earning any money for it, and not getting much credit: that’s pretty much entry level in a nutshell. And I think that kind of kills my motivation to go forward and do more. I guess that’s what makes it easy for people to settle into a career they don’t love and lose sight of bigger goals. But there’s still that little twang of jealousy every time I hear of Pulitzer Prize winners, so maybe hope isn’t completely lost.

Maybe in a few years I’ll be celebrating with my own gold sticker on my own children’s book for little nerds like my childhood self to pick up. But this year, I think I’ll just go through the pages of this blog, watching videos of talking animals and pictures of cute animals.

What Megan Fox Has Taught Me

13 Apr

…Wow I honestly never thought I would be creating a post about Megan Fox, let alone about her life lessons. I’m just not a fan, mainly because I’ve never seen any of her movies (seriously, Transformers just sounds terrible to me) and know nothing about her besides the fact that she’s hot.

But then I stumbled on this TODAY article and watched her Jay Leno interview regarding her tattoo removal, and I’ve come to sort of respect the girl!

Lottery Madness

30 Mar

The Mega Millions jackpot is up to a whopping $640 million right now. So naturally everybody everywhere is going completely and totally nutso. The grocery store had a line roped off last night for people buying tickets for tonight’s drawing and I can only imagine what convenience stores and Shop Rites all over the area must be like right now.

It brings me back to my high school days working as a cashier at Rite Aid… ahhh the not-so-glory days. At some point in my time there the Mega Millions went up to around $800 million and I had the unfortunate task of working there on the night the lottery dropped. Oh the madness, the insanity, the crazy amounts of money wasted on these poor dreams. People lined up and literally wrapped around the store until 8 p.m. when the lottery closed, buying $50 and even $100 worth of tickets, while I stood there pushing the same button over and over again, asking “cash or annuity, cash or annuity.” You bet I called up my friends when I got done my shift and made fun of all those nut jobs for days and days. The fact is that in my three years at Rite Aid the most money I ever saw come from any lottery ticket was about $100. And that was from a scratch off. You just don’t win.

Still while I was in the grocery store last night, staring at all those people, in the midst of my judgement my eyes flashed to the money on the lottery sign. There was so much of it, so so much.  I need so money for so many things, and there it is, just enticing me. So much money. How could it hurt to buy just one… oh no, I’m getting sucked in! I can’t avoid it! Someone help!

And that’s how I ended up with four lottery tickets for tonight’s Mega Millions lottery drawing.
